MANISTEE, MI – This Up North beach town is extending the fun into fall with lots to do – including a new fall festival.
Downtown Manistee’s Fall Festival – the first ever – is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28, with businesses and organizations teaming up to offer something for every member of the family to enjoy, from trick-or-treating to haunted houses to cider, donuts and bratwurst.
Things get going early with a Spooky Science program under a tent at the Manistee County Library, 95 Maple St. in Manistee, followed by a kids Costume Crawl from the library to the downtown businesses district at 11:45 a.m. Downtown trick-or-treating then begins at noon.
The Manistee Recreation Association will host its annual Zombie 5K Run at 4 p.m. – dressing up is highly encouraged. The registration is fee is $20. It starts at the new Hampton Inn & Suites, 101 Lakeshore Drive in Manistee.
The Happy Hippie, 81 Division St. in Manistee, will have tarot card readings from noon to 4 p.m. For those 18 and up, the Black Lotus Salon & Wellness, 375 River St. in Manistee, will have pendulum readings from 4-6 p.m.

Those looking for a spooky good time can check out a few different hauntings. The Manistee Ghost Ship, 99 Arthur St. in Manistee Township, will be open from 7:30-10:30 p.m.; find details here. P&L Sammich Barista, 375 River St. in Manistee, will host a haunted house from 2-4 p.m. From 6:30-10, check out the guided haunted forest tour at Orchard Beach State Park, 2064 Lakeshore Road in Manistee Township, hosted by the park’s friends’ group and the Manistee High School National Honor Society.
The Manistee Elks, 432 River St. in Manistee, will host Boos, Brews and Brats from 6-11 p.m. Entry is $20, which includes four tickets for beer or brats. There will be a costume contest with the winner receiving $100 and music by Sufferin’ Suckatash.
