What The Tarot Trailer Reveals About The Movie

Jacob Batalon looks out a car window in Tarot

Judging from the trailer and the synopsis, Tarot has a number of elements in common with A24’s Talk To Me, which was released last year to positive reviews and a strong showing at the box office. The film performed so well, in fact, that Talk To Me 2 was confirmed several weeks later. Tarot takes a similar premise – that of teens messing around with a sinister force and inadvertently unleashing evil upon themselves – and trades an embalmed, spirit-communing hand for Tarot cards.

Made on a budget of only $4.5 million, Talk To Me ended up earning over $92 million at the box office.

While the Tarot cast doesn’t feature any big-name actors, all of its stars have proven themselves in previous work. Batalon, who may be the best well-known of the bunch, is best known for playing Ned Leeds as part of the cast of the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy. Slater has appeared in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Bradley in Wrong Turn and The 100, and Avantika recently appeared in 2024’s Mean Girls remake.

Clearly, however, audiences shouldn’t get too attached to any of the movie’s characters. As shown in the trailer, each one becomes a target of a different dark entity, and it’s likely that not everyone will make it until the end credits. As far as the evil perpetrators go, the trailer suggests that different figures from the Tarot cards will come to life to hunt their victims, including a witch-like figure called the High Priestess and another that looks like a jester. Hopefully, more about Tarot is revealed in the months leading up to its May 10 release date.
