LANSING, MI — A Genesee County woman’s recent huge lottery win was literally in the cards for her as she won a $500,000 prize hours after she was told about impending fortune coming her way.

“I have always told the people in my life that I was going to win the Lottery one day,” said the 59-year-old winner who chose to remain anonymous.. “Once a week I purchase a few instant games, and I usually always buy them from the same store. The day I won, I was on my way to a Tarot reading, so I stopped at a different store, purchased some tickets, and put them in my purse.”

The woman bought her 50X Wild Time instant ticket at the BP gas station, located at 3238 West Thompson Road in Fenton before heading off to her appointment.

“During my Tarot reading, I was told money would be coming into my life very soon. I tried to think of ways this might happen, but I didn’t even think about the Lottery tickets in my purse.

“Later that night I scratched the tickets. I saw the star symbol and thought: ‘Well at least I won my money back’ assuming it would be a $10 win. Much to my surprise, I revealed a prize of $500,000! I tried to remain calm, but I knew right then and there this had just changed my life!”

With her winnings, the woman plans on paying off her car, taking a cruise and investing the remainder.

The last players from Michigan to win a Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot is the Wolverine FLL lottery club which claimed a $1.05 billion jackpot in March 2021. With their winnings, the group plans to give back to the community.

And while they were lucky winners, it’s smart for players to check their tickets immediately as a Mega Millions winner worth $1 million sold in Southfield in 2023 went unclaimed. The money instead went to the state’s School Aid Fund.
