The worlds of Tarot and Pokémon may not seem like they have much in common but one talented fan has found a way to unite them with a collection of gorgeous cards themed around Ghost-Types. Whether it’s the inherently spooky nature of the creatures or their generally decent stats and abilities, Ghost-Type Pokémon have always been popular amongst the community. Nothing may top the love people have for Pikachu, but Gengar, Mimikyu, and Aegislash have all garnered passionate fans who can now see them immortalized as stunning predictions of the future.

Posted to Reddit by user zanevikart, the creator shared their in-progress artwork of a Tarot deck themed after Ghost-Type Pokémon and the cards themselves are gorgeous.

Receiving plenty of compliments on the pieces and thousands of upvotes, the artist noted that the pictured Pokémon are some of their favorites and elaborated that they have plans to include even more, including Chandelure and its entire evolutionary line. Zanevikart states that they don’t currently have any plans to sell the pieces but they’d be open to looking into if it’s possible to do without The Pokémon Company coming down on them.

Ghost-Type Tarot Cards Is Ingenious

Aside from the clear artistic talent on display in the Tarot cards, some of the match-ups are inspired. Based on some of the Major Arcana, the use of Mimikyu as The Fool works since the Pokémon is known for masquerading as Pikachu, albeit poorly, causing many to initially think it was a ghost wearing a sheet. Aegislash as Justice is also an excellent pairing given the Pokémon’s appearance of a floating sword and shield, symbolic of law and order in equal measure.

One iconic Ghost-Type type that doesn’t have a dedicated Tarot card just yet but does make small appearances of others is Giratina, a Legendary Pokémon that was introduced in the fourth generation games Pokémon Diamond & Pearl. Eagle-eyed fans can spot the Ghost/Dragon-Type as a frozen statue with a broken wing in the background of The Lovers card while The Magician card displays Giratina’s red eye inside Hoopa’s ring. It also appears that the Pokémon’s shadowy silhouette can be identified in the background of The Wheel of Fortune alongside several other creatures like Marowak and Shedinja.

The Pokémon franchise may be nearly 30 years old, having first been released for the Game Boy back in 1996, the series isn’t slowing down. Hailed as one of the most popular media products of all time, Pokémon spans the core video game series, a popular anime, a trading card game, and an exhaustive amount of merchandise. It’s even spawned a live-action movie in the form of Detective Pikachu in 2019, a film that boasted an all-star cast and earned plenty of praise from fans.
