Dean Winchester is the righteous man in Supernatural art that’s in the style of a tarot card. Jensen Ackles had his breakout role as the older brother, Dean, in the long-running series Supernatural. Ackles reprised Dean for the short-lived spinoff The Winchesters, which may prove to be the end of the popular franchise for the time being. But a reunion or revival is always possible, both due to the premise of the show and a devoted viewership.

The continued popularity of Supernatural is shown through a social media post by domesticatedTFW, which shows off art in the style of a tarot card.

Dean is the subject of the tarot card, and he’s referred to as “The Righteous Man“. This could be a reference to the fact that, especially early on in the series, Dean was fairly righteous and steadfast about the mission of “saving people, hunting things, the family business.” Dean is dressed in his signature style, and holding a knife.

What Does The Future Of Supernatural Look Like?

Supernatural had long struggled to launch a spinoff, as the series was heavily dependent on the chemistry between Dean, Sam (Jared Padalecki), and Castiel (Misha Collins). As the artwork above shows, Dean was one of the primary reasons for the show’s popularity. A spinoff, The Winchesters, followed John and Mary Winchester in the 1970s, with Drake Rodger and Meg Donnelly playing the respective roles of Sam and Dean’s parents. But the spinoff came at a time of massive change for The CW. The network’s new owners, Nexstar, shifted its programming strategy to reflect their new stated goals and intention of broadening The CW’s audience. As a result, The Winchesters was canceled.

The efforts to save the spinoff included the recently rebranded Max streaming service owned by Warners Bros. TV, which produces the prequel. Netflix, where Supernatural is available to stream, and Amazon Studios, which has a first-look deal with Jensen and Danneel Ackles, were also considered. The lack of interest at the time reportedly came down the result of the ongoing WGA strike for fair wages, as streaming platforms are reluctant to announce big projects at a time of industry uncertainty, which has been echoed by Ackles.

The first order of business is for studio and streaming executives to get back to the negotiating table and offer the writers and actors an equitable deal. Beyond that point, as the industry opens up once again, it’s likely that Sam and Dean will be back in some form. With artists creating new art to help keep Supernatural relevant in the media landscape, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities for the show to return.
